NAPC Takes Defensive Action Against Data Scrapers

February 12, 2014

The NAPC has had no choice but to start blocking whole countries and dozens of IP addresses to defend its server.

Apparently the data on the NAPC's sites has a high value to a number of individuals and organizations who don't hesitate to scrape the sites of every byte of data using sotware programs.  This causes the sever to become overloaded and become inaccessible, which is why scraping the sites is a violation of each site's Terms of Usage.

To stop the violations, the NAPC has been forced to block dozens of IP addresses and users from China, Russia, Ukraine and some other countries.  Yet, the scrapers keep coming back and finding new ways to attack our server.

If the violations don't stop we will have no choice but to require login to view most data.
